Commitments to action
This Summit aims to empower all people to leverage the role of food systems to drive our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. As providers of up to 80% of the total freshwater used by humanity for domestic consumption, irrigation, industry, food and energy production, the role of mountain ecosystems in food systems should be acknowledged, and actions to protect the “water towers of the world” should be taken.
The objective of this coalition for action is to create a broad-based multi-stakeholder coalition to develop, model and implement cohesive and integrated measures that promote consumption and production of affordable, healthy diets within safe planetary boundaries from nature-positive agriculture with all animal-source foods deriving from systems providing a good quality of life for farmed animals.
Conflict, climate-related and health disasters cause major disruptions to food systems, with devastating consequences for the people that depend on them. National social protection systems help address extreme vulnerability through providing social safety nets to the most vulnerable people when disaster hits.
