Great idea Sophie!
My area of interest is the environmental sustainability of diets, and there are so many fantastic papers and reports to choose from…
One that I recently came across is from the British Dietetics Association is excellent. It provides a fantastic overview of all the issues related to sustainable, healthy eating and is very easy to read: https://www.bda.uk.com/uploads/assets/539e2268-7991-4d24-b9ee867c1b2808fc/a1283104-a0dd-476b-bda723452ae93870/one%20blue%20dot%20reference%20guide.pdf
One of the most cited papers on environmentally sustainable diets: EAT-Lancet: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30660336/
And a paper related to my passion area, namely the impact of ultra-processed foods on sustainability: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/343418151_Ultra-Processed_Foods_and_Food_System_Sustainability_What_Are_the_Links
I have a few papers on the environmental impact of the Australian diet, measured using both water scarcity footprint and cropland footprint. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Kim-Anastasiou
What are your favourite papers? What are other’s areas of interest?

Nice to meet you Isaac! Such a great area that you’re working in. Agricultural policies are super important to change food systems to make them more equitable, healthy and sustainable.
-
Ah no worries! Sounds like a good proposed solution nonetheless 🙂
Yes, a good point. Having a dedicated workspace is super important, but a luxury that not everyone has.
-
Hi @sharlaine How great that you have a paper on this topic! Could you share the link?
The reduced work week is such a clever proposed solution. More time for food prep would be a great thing. Do you feel that you’ve been working more since covid? With all the lockdowns and limited ability to do other things, I feel the work week is getting longer, not shorter! What do you think?

Hi Robert,
Thanks for joining us! I had to google mangosteen as I’ve never tried it. What a neat-looking fruit! What does it taste like? I bet it’s delicious!

Hi Lore,
Apologies for my delayed response. Welcome to our community!
Yes, there are events coming up. Tomorrow some of our fellow youth are launching an amazing new campaign. It’s called Act4Food Act4Change Youth campaign and it launches on 18 May 2021 at 2 PM CEST (Geneva Time).
You can register here: https://lnkd.in/gE4bHWU
People are regularly posting events in the Youth community page, so I encourage you to keep an eye out there for future events.

Hi Richard,
Happy Friday! Thanks for joining us here. Your PhD sounds fascinating. I can’t wait to hear more. Do you have specific research planned? What are your goals throughout your degree?
For me, the food systems summit is an opportunity to engage in a positive discussion on shaping our future food systems. As a dietitian with a big passion for the environment, my ideal food system would be based on minimally processed foods, which use less resources and are healthier for all. Also moving away from a homogenous food supply which predominantly serves transnational food giants, rather than the farmers, and workers who are putting in the work along the way. A food supply based on wholefoods, rather than ultra-processed foods, would achieve these objectives.
That’s my dream! What’s yours?

Hey Renee,
This is such a great article. You can feel the passion coming from the authors 😀
Love the bannock bread recipe, will have to give it a shot!
-
Welcome Renee!
That’s awesome that you are working on this within SUN!
What are the main focuses of this group? Do you have any key goals for what you would like to get out of the summit?
Feel free to reach out if there is anything we can help with. And please invite your fellow SUN members to join us on this platform 😀 -
Hi Fjolla,
Thanks for sharing, sounds like an excellent organisation to be involved in. So important to have people working on these issues in every country around the world 🙂

Hey Luisa,
Is there any particular question or area you would like to focus on in your dialogue? Perhaps we could try to find others who are interested in a similar topic?
-
Hey Luisa, That’s great. Most of the information on Summit Dialogues are on this page: https://summitdialogues.org/overview/independent-food-systems-summit-dialogues/
It sounds like a few people are interested in hosting dialogues. Perhaps we could collaborate to lighten the load? Alternatively, hosting a dialogue for a specific region or group of interest is also an option.

Hi Laura,
Great to meet you via this platform!
So great to hear about your research, sounds very interesting and I would have so much to learn from you! Is there a particular region that you are focusing on? Are the pathogenic bacteria found in global food production or just in a specific area?
What would you like to see changed in the food system?
-
Hi Fjolla,
Great to hear from you. Sounds like you have lots of relevant expertise!
The organisation you are volunteering for sounds excellent. What is it called? What is your role there?
