Building Sustainable Agriculture for the Farming Communities!

In the context of the coalition for food system transformation through agroecology the Cambodian Farmer Federation Association of Agricultural Producers (CFAP) has strengthened network amongst members’ organizations and non-members’ organizations in Cambodia aimed to promote agroecology to have better understanding, thus to enable farmers live the communities to get access to knowledge to improve agricultural production as well as to improve the living conditions of rural people to live with dignity, better livelihoods, avoid from threatening to lives instead they can contribute to reach the goal by 2030.

Coordination farmers and multi stakeholders included local authorities, researches, national government, sub-national government and farmers’ organizations to have exchanged opinions and challenges faced by farmers and the farming communities such as water, capital, markets, technical skills, energy and small scale businesses initiatives for the rural farming communities.

Building the capacity for farmers and farmers’ organizations on agroecological practices such as CAM Organic practices, Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) and seeking good methodologies that can integrate Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) with Agroecological Practices to ensure that farmers to apply and scale up new practices smoothly with support from the national policy. Through our experiences on institutional strengthening, agribusiness and value chain investment, climate change, agroecology, rural development and some other related activities included soil health and biodiversity, therefore the revitalization the organizational programs to strengthen farmers and members’ organisations to get access to sustainable agricultural production, nutritious healthy food and sustainable markets through a methodology of structuring from farm to market along side with natural resource conservation and development to ensure that farmers, especially smallholder farmers can also contribute actively to deliver safe and nutritious food to consumers with sustainability.

Smallholders live in the rural areas will get access to intervention on water source for irrigation in a year round, enabling farmers and farmers’ organizations to get access to funding from development agencies and financial institutions, training on agroecology, markets by engagement farmers and producers/farmers’ organizations with companies, the responsible public and private partnership on implementation of agroecological practices. To ensure that farmers can get access to technical support effectively from farmers’ organizations and agricultural cooperatives in a better food system structure, therefore the local agribusiness advisors (LABAs) base at each farmers’ organisation and agricultural cooperative will receive various specific trainings to ensure that they are capable to provide technical support and or knowledge sharing effectively to farmer members.
