Coalition of Action on Universal Social Protection for Food Security and Nutrition, Decent Work and Equitable and Sustainable Livelihoods Within Agri-food Systems

The Netherlands commits to the coalition on Social safety nets, started by multiple organizations, among others CARE, ILO, WFP and many more. The importance of social safety-nets to prevent hunger was re-affirmed in the current pandemic. The systemic approach of the coalition fits well with current Dutch policies to achieve the SDG’s (with a special emphasis on SDG 2). The support by the government of the Netherlands will consist of political support and eventually new financial commitments.


  • Forge and enhance the linkages and synergies between national social protection and food systems to yield better poverty reduction, food security, nutrition, and decent work outcomes supporting climate change adaptation and mitigation (green recovery) as well as the progressive realization of human rights. Expand and strengthen the evidence base to develop innovative and practical approaches to inform governments’ policies, programmes and transfer packages to maximize social protection’s impact in the reduction of poverty, hunger, various forms of malnutrition and at different stages of the life course, and the promotion of decent work.
  • Capitalize on the advances made in social protection during the COVID-19 response to strengthen social protection systems. Building on the coverage of almost 1.3 billion people achieved in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and lessons learnt on new, scaled-up or adapted social protection measures will guide and inform recovery and efforts to ‘build forward better’ towards improved efficiency of programmes and sustainable long-term financing models. This will enable low and lower-middle income countries to become more self-reliant, and for social protection systems to be strengthened.


  • Support ongoing USP2030 Partnership [ USP 2030 ] efforts to expand coverage to populations that are inadequately or not at all served by social protection, making improvements in the adequacy of benefits provided and the comprehensiveness of needs and risks to which they extend protection, ensuring that access to different programmes are available based on the changing needs and risks across the life-course. Moreover, ensure their quality and ability to effectively respond to changing contexts, emerging risks and needs of the population.

Achieving Food Equity through Vegetables, legumes and fruits.​

Partnership for a Healthier America, in partnership with with 30 community-based nonprofits dedicated to ending hunger, eight companies and six foundations, will forge additional partnerships to provide a total of 50 million additional servings of vegetables, legumes and fruits between 2020 and 2025. Partners include food banks, public housing, YMCAs, early childhood education centers, city governments, and community health providers.
